Porto lighthouse

The Farol de Felgueiras (or Felgueiras Lighthouse) near Porto, Portugal, gets some massive waves during winter storms. This photo is actually a combination of two images: the original showing the wave topping the lighthouse, and another to introduce lower waves in the foreground. It was taken in January 2013 and was made a Photo of the Day by National Geographic.

Note to self: This winter, get to the coast during one of those storms.

That’s a stunning pic. The power of nature captured in all it’s raw glory. On another note the Northern Lights were a no show last night. The weather guys said it was pos to see them as far south as Northern England and my little corner of s/w Scotland was a probable. Conditions improved over the day and it was a lovely night, so at midnight I got in the car and headed off for a really dark spot (not that far as I live in the countryside) but , alas , it was not to be.
