Storm porn

I love me a good storm/weather time-lapse, and this one is gorgeous. Not only is the footage beautiful, but the haunting music makes a perfect accompaniment. Nicolaus Wegner shot it during the summer of 2013 in South Dakota and Wyoming, and has now had the ultimate accolade for any photographer or videographer: National Geographic featured it, along with an interview which is worth a read. (My takeaway: a camera and tripod are a “portable lightning rod”).

I also enjoyed the equipment listed on the Vimeo page (emphasis mine):

Equipment: Canon 5dmii, 1dsmiii, 16-35mii, 70-200f4, tripods, intervalometers, hail dented Jeep.

My vote for Wegner’s 2014 effort is to lengthen the time-lapse just a bit, and accompany it with “The Feeling Begins” from Peter Gabriel’s Passion album. That would inspire a happy squee sound and an immediate download to my hard drive for repeated viewings.

(For those unfamiliar with the music, you can check it out on this awesome video of people in Yosemite. It’s the Middle Eastern percussion, building to an almost unbearable tension, that makes the song indelible.)
