Mt Hood lenticular

Local photographer makes good: Portland reader Paulo alerted me to this Astronomy Picture of the Day, which was taken by his friend, and which is undeniably gorgeous. That eerily moonlit cloud hovering near Mt. Hood (Oregon) is a lenticular cloud, and the first one photographer Ben Canales has seen at night near Mt. Hood.

Click the link above for an explanation of lenticular clouds, the photo for a larger version, and these links to see Ben Canales’ work in video form via his Uncage the Soul Productions. He is a great ambassador for my home region.

About Fletcher DeLancey

Socialist heathen and Mac-using author of the Chronicles of Alsea, who enjoys pondering science, politics, well-honed satire (though sarcastic humor can work, too) and all things geeky.
