A day brightener

Today hasn’t been a great day so far. I’m in the midst of getting my second-ever crown, a procedure that was supposed to be easily concluded last week with the installation of my permanent crown. After two hours of torture, including literally hammering the temporary crown off my tooth (that was some seriously adhesive cement) and pushing, pulling, poking and prodding my achingly sensitive tooth with both the temp crown and the permanent one, my dentist informed me that the permanent crown the lab had sent didn’t fit. Therefore he was going to have to replace the temporary crown and have a new permanent one made. So after all of that pain, I was right back where I started.

Yesterday, the office called to inform me that the lab couldn’t make a new tooth with the previous impression, so I had to come in for a new impression. I said, “Let me get this straight. You’re going to pull off this temporary crown again, take another impression, put the temp crown back, and then I have to come back so you can pull it off a third time?”

“Yes,” said the receptionist cheerfully.

This time I asked for the anesthetic. Last time I’d refused, having been led to believe that it would be a quick procedure. Hah. So I got the shot, which took one and a half songs on my iPod, meaning that needle was buried in my jaw for at least five minutes. Then the dentist pulled off the temp crown, only to discover that despite the anesthesia, my tooth was still sensitive. I refused a second shot, figuring that at this point, the damn tooth couldn’t hurt as much as another shot would.

Now I’m home with a mouth that’s still numb two hours later, wishing I’d refused the first shot as well, for all the good it did. I checked my mail and found that two friends — one in Sweden, the other in the US — had sent me the same link to a French commercial. Sometimes the interconnectedness of our world still amazes me.

That commercial gave me my first laugh of the day, so I’m sharing it here. Everyone can use a day brightener, right?

My day did get brighter — the US women’s soccer team beat Germany in the Algarve Cup, 2-0! Also, I was able to eventually eat, which did worlds for my general outlook.

I hate mouthwork/dentist work. You’re my 3rd friend having problems in that area this week. Healing energy sent that way. Glad you liked the funny…too true sometimes!!
