Wallpaper Monday

Lonely road

“On the road to Big Sur, California. Somewhere between San Luis Obispo and San Simeon,” writes photographer Wampics.

Now this is a bike road…if you can get out in the morning before the winds start blowing. I’d guess that mountain range shrugs off a mean headwind later in the day. Unless the road is closer to the Pacific than it appears, in which case it’s the crosswind that would be brutal.

Love the gloomy clouds concealing the tops of the mountains, even as the fields shine in the light.

I looked at this in 3840×2400 to check whether the tiny specks in the distance might indeed be motorbikes (they aren’t) and had to wonder about the low technical quality. The pic is quite blurry and artefact-y, even though the camera used has a somewhat higher resolution. Perhaps the photographer uploaded a reduced size and the site generated the rest? Questions… 🙂

    But it’s a lovely sight.

You have a nice monitor! I have no way of viewing an image in that resolution, so the issues escaped my notice. Good questions, though. Perhaps due to excessive post-processing?

Hm… dunno if the guys that make the image viewer I use, xnView, made a mac version, but it is pretty neat and allows you to view stuff in any resolution you want — not all at once, of course, but you can move around…

I’d *like* to have a nice monitor, but in fact I use a netbook (1024×600) 🙂 The browser allows for pixel-peeping, though. As Jorge says, not the whole pic at once but you can get the details.

That is one of my “must do” motorcycle roads. I have several friends who ride that area, and have posted photos of it, but not with the composition of this one!
