whale shark

Just for a change of pace…here’s a wallpaper that could come from almost anywhere in the mid-latitude oceans. Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are the biggest of all the sharks, the biggest fish species on the planet, and the biggest non-whale animal on the planet. They could squish all but the largest dinosaurs, too, had they coexisted.

Like other large sea life (basking sharks, megamouth sharks, blue/fin/gray/right whales), whale sharks are filter feeders, straining tiny bits of food out of vast quantities of ocean water. They maintain their huge bodies on a diet of plankton and krill, which boggles my mind whenever I think about it.

Besides their massive size and peaceful attitude, whales sharks are just gorgeous. Take a look at those spots, and that broad, flat mouth. How could anyone resist? If I ever found myself near a whale shark, I’d be hard pressed not to hug it.

Ok.. i have got to ask.. how do you want to hug it? It’s huge…
Wiki: The largest confirmed individual had a length of 12.65 metres (41.50 ft) and a weight of more than 21.5 tonnes (47,000 lb), and there are unconfirmed reports of considerably larger whale sharks. Claims of individuals over 14 metres (46 ft) long and weighing at least 30 tonnes (66,000 lb) are not uncommon.

So again.. how are you going to hug it?? Perhaps pat it on the back but hug??? … though it would be a funny sight to see you try… rofl

I certainly couldn’t resist, I had to elasmobranchify my monitor.
Irresistible creature, irresistible word! : )

(I don’t know about the hug part)
