Lazy Olympic day

Since today is all about preparing for massive TV watching (because the Eurosport Channel is airing the Beijing opening ceremonies before the London ceremonies, and I’m excited about rewatching the Beijing extravaganza in high definition, whee!), I’m taking a lazy day on the blog. Here are two small things to make your day.

First, for the geezers among us, a welcome article in Reuters:

Comforting news for anyone over the age of 35, scientists have worked out that modern pop music really is louder and does all sound the same.

I knew it! And now there’s scientific evidence to back me up, ha. Also, stay off my lawn.

Second, a short video that will melt all but the hardest of hearts. The poster writes:

Some baby bears got stuck in a dumpster over night. Mama bear sat by the dumpster all night listening to her cubs cry. This kept my aunt’s friends awake as well. Watch their rescue!

I was impressed by how quickly those cubs went scooting up that ladder, and all at once, too! But the steep drop to the ground—that was clearly the hard part.

Mama bear is very smart: she was going on her way even before the first of them was on the ground. Probably to incite them to hurry up, once she’s understood they could get out easily. 🙂

Have a great HD TV olympic orgy 🙂

I am delighted with both news spots. Loved the bear video. Now, I would live the counterpoint to the pop music all sounding alike with a corollary study about how modern orchestral compositions have very little music in them and seem to be about who can create the oddest discord and wacky themes…

Oh, yeah….I am envious of the Olympic orgy that you are experiencing. In the next 48 hours I will: drive to Marcola to march in a parade and play a concert in a marching band that is minus its snare drummer, drive back to Eugene and play a tuba ensemble concert, pick up a friend and go to a bar-b-que and poker event to raise money for Soromundi, Lesbian Chorus of Eugene, go home (2300ish), get up, ride in a 248 mile motorcycle ride honoring my fallen friend, return home and play in an outdoor concert that will be the last concert with the current director of the tuba ensemble.

A queen playing with mister bond.. you gotta love the humour she has to agree to that.. i love it.

  5. “Also, stay off my lawn.” LOL. You’ve officially passed middle age, my friend. 😉
