Saturday picture show

I’m a sucker for aurora photos, and National Geographic has a lovely set of them, courtesy of the last burst of solar flares from our sun. Bonus: any and all pics can be downloaded in wallpaper size!

If still photos don’t quite do it for you, then head over to Bad Astronomy and kick back for some high definition goodness. Of the two time lapse videos that Phil Plait put up, I found the first to be absolutely breathtaking. It was put together from 1,600 separate photos, which surely earns that photographer the Most Overworked Trigger Finger award.

Warning: these videos will give you longing thoughts of vacationing in very cold places.

About Fletcher DeLancey

Socialist heathen and Mac-using author of the Chronicles of Alsea, who enjoys pondering science, politics, well-honed satire (though sarcastic humor can work, too) and all things geeky.
