Saturday picture show

Ooo. The BBC has a slideshow featuring the winners of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year awards, run by the Royal Observatory Greenwich and Sky at Night magazine. There are some gorgeous photos here, set up in a automatic slideshow with narration.

After you’ve enjoyed the glories of well-executed astronomy photography, you can go a little lowbrow and appreciate this less exalted photograph, of an elk stuck in a tree in Sweden. She got drunk off fermented apples and fell into a spot she couldn’t get out of. The story does have a happy ending for the elk, if not the tree.

I’ve been there, and have my own photos of it. It is indeed a haunting place, and evidence of lessons we still have not learned.

    Hey ! 🙂
Those astronomy photos are awesome !!!

From Dragonflies to Draco volans to one Dragon-like cloud in the sky up to a fight between two Galactic Dragons … 🙂
Do you think there are acarid Dragons, down there, under the bed or between the sheets… ?

The drunken elk volans is fun, though ! 🙂 She reminds me of someone I knew … who fell ass first and got stuck into an emptied(hell, of course !) barrel of wine, to the greatest hilarity of her equally drunken buddies …. 😀

Some other very interesting tree climbers, in Morroco, and they don’t get stuck up there !!!
