“Hang on, I love you”

The monstrous tornado that ripped through Tuscaloosa, Alabama, spawned a series of amateur videos that take one’s breath away even while viewing from a comfortable, safe and sunny kitchen. This video, however, tops them all. It’s not of the terrifying Tuscaloosa tornado, but of a much smaller one in Wilson, North Carolina. What makes it worth viewing is the ongoing narration by the videographer, a laconic man named Steven Hoag. He’s sitting in his truck in a parking lot, talking to his sister on his mobile phone while filming the tornado coming straight for him. At no time does his voice ever waver from utter calm.

My favorite quote: “I’m still good, it’s just, uh, now I’ve got a problem with what I’m driving. It’s damaged.” No kidding.
