I’m not sure, but I think Bilbo Baggins mentioned this spot in his memoirs.
Actually, it’s the remains of an old mill sitting on the bank of the Ribeira do Vascão, right on the border between the Algarve and the Alentejo. If you look carefully, you can see one whole and one partial mill stone amongst the rocks at lower left.
I took this photo on the way to Mértola a couple of weeks ago, and yes, the grass really was that green. Another reason to love the Algarve (or Alentejo) in winter-slash-spring…

A beautiful picture which reminds me of a lovely day and some laughter on that bridge. However, I don’t think it is the Guadiana River bank which is pictured. I think this was the bank of the Ribeira do Vasçao. I didn’t see any hobbits. Or dragons. Dragons would have been terrifyingly cool. Could you arrange that for our next visit? If not, hobbits would be cool.
Ha! You are right about the river name. And a certain native Portuguese who lives in this house read that post and didn’t catch it. Points to you!
Off to correct the post now…
The orcs did it! They changed the name of the river.
